As the digital landscape constantly evolves, Google has officially announced the roll out of increased meta description lengths in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Up until recently, the maximum characters allowed in the meta description tag stood at 160. Now, it’s up to 320, a huge 65% increase. This is a big change, and one that requires a response to stay ahead.

In a statement, Google revealed the method behind the change:

“We recently made a change to provide more descriptive and useful snippets, to help people better understand how pages are relevant to their searches. This resulted in snippets becoming slightly longer, on average.”
