The update labeled as “Checkout” will be available first in the US, where just over 20 well-known brands will be the face of the latest mark into eCommerce via in-app platforms.
Brands such as Burberry, Adidas, Zara and Nike will be the first to feature the new update.
This marks the first step in targeting sales amongst the younger in-app users, due to a record breaking 72% of US 13-17 years old using Instagram in 2018 alone.
The Facebook-owned app will be taking a percentage of each sale as a “selling fee” for each transaction. Speaking of the updateInstagram said:
“People no longer have to navigate to the browser when they want to buy,” and that the user will have the availability to shop at “their favourite brands without needing to log in and enter their information multiple times.”
