It’s finally been announced! Adobe have said that they will phase out Flash Player by the end of 2020 in favour of HTML5.

Flash Player was the most widely used way of watching video clips and playing games online, however more recently it has been found that flaws in the code made it vulnerable to hackers and infections.

HTML5 alternatives can be used to make this multimedia content available within websites without requiring users to install and update a plug-in.

The plug-in has never been supported by iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads. Apple was one of Flash’s main critics. Steve Jobs once wrote a public letter highlighting concerns about its reliability, security and performance.

Chrome is now the most popular web browser and Flash’s usage has fallen off dramatically because of this. In 2014 it was used each day by 80% of desktop users. Now, this is just 17%.

If your website uses Flash and you want to discuss an upgrade, feel free to speak to a member of our team on 0800 084 3086 to find out how we can help!
